How do you open a daycare center? What does the administrator have to do versus what the director does?
Sara R asked:
Does anybody know of any websites that explain in detail everything that a daycare administrator does and how to go about doing it?

Most states have very strict guidelines for opening a day-care center. You should start by going to your state government website and researching all that will be involved.
You might want to visit a nearby daycare center and talk to the owner. If that’s not possible then do a google search for daycare centers in your area. If you do get hits then go to that web site and see what information is there. Hopefully there are job descriptions for the different staffing positions. If there isn’t I have access to a career exploration called, Career Cruising. In this program an Administrator is described as: administrators work behind the scenes to make sure everything operates smoothly.
In the same program: Directors recruit, hire, train, and manage staff, as well as develop programs based on their clients’ demands.
From the description the administrator looks at the overall organization and makes sure things are running as close to 100% as possible.
The director, on the other hand, is hiring and working with, and managing, the staff the administrator provides. I see both positions working together in a collaborative relationship.
I hope this information helps.
