Easy And Creative Daycare Activities
Thinking up easy and creative daycare activities is one of the most difficult things about the childcare business, which is especially true with the wider range of ages you have. You obviously want the activities to be age appropriate for each child. At the same time, you must promote learning or any other positive result. You want to make it fun as well, or you will never keep the interest of the child.
Most likely you will participate in many of the activities, but you also need to have some activities ready which will keep them busy. This allows you to look after some of your other duties also. With all these things on your mind, it sometimes seems like you can get in a rut from doing the same daycare activities over and over. Here are some simple ways to mix things up a bit while still making it beneficial and fun for the children at the same time.
Daycare centers should definitely provide some free play time, which allows the children to learn some social skills and develop their creativity as well. Additionally, you will need to set up some structured daycare activities. Allowing the children to draw and write is important, however doing it too often might become boring and the children won’t stay interested.
Try Using A Theme
Theme based daycare activities are always fun and popular with the children. Base your activities on any sort of theme you like. The possibilities here are endless. Animals, colors, careers, holiday or seasonal themes are some ideas to get you started. Or just about anything else you can think of. Some activities could be arts or crafts, or maybe a coloring or drawing contest, for example.
Try Acting Out A Story
Coming up with a story line that the children can act it out is another great idea. Offer them the general idea, and then let them create their own story from there. Children of all ages can participate, and this activity really lets them show you their creative side. You might also try allowing the children to create props and costumes. This is certainly a great way to add some colorful change to your regular daycare activities.
Just Ask Them
If you are out of ideas something else you can try is to just ask the children what it is that they would like to do. Pick one day out of each week to be kid’s choice day. After each child suggests an idea you could then take turns until everybody’s ideas are presented. Not only will this give the children confidence and a sense of accomplishment, but it is fun as well.
Helping Out
Sometimes children like to help out adults with regular tasks, so try incorporating some of your daycare activities into the daily chores as well. Doing big people jobs gives them a sense of importance. Something as simple as arranging a book shelf or setting the table is good enough for them. If the child is actively involved and having fun, then it doesn’t really matter exactly what the task is.
